Bed bugs with no accountability. Strongly advise not to come. Poor sanitation and rude service.
Edit: I payed in full because they would give no (even partial) refund.
Bed Bug Summary: after the second night of our stay, we found many blood stains on the sheets and some clusters of small bites. We raised this to the staff who dismissed it as mosquitos (and have continued to). These were not mosquito bites. Further, we had no open wounds to produce blood stains. The staff begrudgingly steamed the room. One 'nice' staff offered to dryer our clothes and we were provided a vaccuum upon request. He was generally nice and helpful, but also said they were not bed bugs. The rest of the staff were extremely rude. They always refuted the possibility of bed bugs, or blamed it on us. They never offered help and only begrudgingly helped when we requested it. They raised their voices at us and were visibily angry though we were respectful. One memorable encounter is when we showed the pictures of the blood stains to the staff who acted like it never existed despite seeing it in person. After showing the pictures we took, they seemed upset and surprised. One staff shook his finger and angrily said 'no'.
-General Stay-
Quite nice. The building and furnishings are visibly older. They did a great job making it look fresh and clean. The breakfast was quaint but enjoyable. The location is good and the room is spacious.
As for service, I have ambivalent feelings. Much like other reviews, we found two of the staff to be abrasive and rude. They are quite stubborn and provide poor service. They will not try to understand or help you, and may get loud or angry with you. One of the staff is, however, very nice, understanding, and tried to help, which made up a bit.
-Bed Bug Timeline-
Seemed like a recent issue. Given our immense research, it seems unlikely it was us because we hadn't been much of anywhere (a new hydrofoil boat and a beach). Also, eggs take 6-10 days to hatch. Blood stains suggest several critters (but not an infestation). My theory is that these were the first generation of newly hatched eggs.
Initial Check-In: Everything looked clean. There was an imitation wool blanket that we imagined is hard to clean, so we removed it because of our suspicions.
First Breakfast: opted out room cleaning because we were only there 3 nights and its better on the environment.
Second Breakfast: woke up late, rushed to breakfast. After returning to our room, we noticed blood stains and then found the itchy bites on our bodies.
First Encounter: Raised this to the staff who said these are due to mosquitos. They suggested that we got these from the beach or boat in Capri. Highly unlikely. The bites are not raised like mosquito bites and are clustered rather than random. They are also much smaller but still itchy. Further, we found blood stains on the sheets just like bed bugs and never heard or found any mosquitos in our room. We told them we suspected the wool blanket because we only used it this night and only my partner used it (who had the majority of the blood stains and bites). They hang it outside then bring it to their storage. Seems like sketchy sanitation.
The staff reacted quickly. They called and informed the third staff member of our situation. They checked under the mattress which looked absolutely disgusting. We are told this is the first bed bug incident in 20 years. With how quickly they knew exactly what to do, despite refuting bed bugs, I find this supucopus.
In between: We found more bites and asked for a partial refund and a different room. They continued to refute it and told us the previous customers had no issues.
Final breakfast: was our very lengthy discussion where they were rude, summarized above. One staff asked why we didn't raise the issue earlier or get cleaning. Felt like they were trying to accuse us.
I get the impression they would say anything to not take ownership and deflect blame. E.g., they claimed.the wool blanket was new. They always said an error was impossible.
