CHIESA DELLA PIETÀ DEI TURCHINI
Church for orphans in blue uniforms, linked to a prestigious music conservatory in Naples
Founded in 1592 and consecrated to Notre-Dame-de-Pitié, the church was given the name turchini in reference to the blue colour(turchino means turquoise) of the uniforms worn by the orphans who were taken in. The Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini, one of the most prestigious conservatories of music in Naples, where Pergolesi and Scarlatti were trained, also depended on the church. Inside the church there are several baroque paintings baroque of the Neapolitan school.
