CHIESA DI SANTA MARIA DEL CARMINE
Baroque church with the Madonna Bruna and the tomb of Conradin the Swabian
Founded in the 13th century, the church was refurbished in the Baroque style. The bell tower, completed in 1632, is the highest in the town at 75 m. Of note inside is the Madonna Bruna, an icon of the Virgin, and the tomb of Conradin the Swabian, last son of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, executed by order of King Charles I of Anjou (late 13th century). On 16 July, the festival of the Madonna del Carmine is celebrated here, where fireworks and firecrackers delight the Neapolitans.
