CHIESA DI SANT'ELIGIO MAGGIORE
Church combining Gothic and Renaissance styles, the oldest building of the Angevins in Naples.
The Church of Sant'Eligio is the oldest building of the Angevins in Naples. It was founded, together with the hospital, in 1270. The church has been rebuilt several times and rebuilt after the bombing of 1943, and today it has been restored to its original appearance. It is built against what used to be the hospital and a beautiful Gothic door. Inside, the mixture of styles (Gothic, Renaissance) - see in particular the fourth nave added in the 16th century - gives it an elegant singularity.
