Building housing a famous painting by Caravaggio: The Seven Works of Mercy.
Founded in 1601, this charitable institution helped the most needy; in other words, it performed works of mercy. The Pio Monte is still active today and its building presents a gallery of paintings dating from the 15th to the 19th century. The centerpiece, displayed in the church, is Caravaggio's painting The Seven Works of Mercy, dating from 1607, for which the painter was inspired by the atmosphere of the Neapolitan streets.
