COMMUNAL VILLA
Public garden along the waterfront, in the Neapolitan district of Chiaia.
An immense public garden, laid out by Carlo Vanvitelli in 1780 at the request of King Ferdinand IV, along the seafront. Regularly enlarged and embellished, its palm trees and other eucalyptus trees are still a haven of freshness in the heart of the Neapolitan frenzy. See in particular the 19th century bandstand and the beautiful fountains, one of which has an open basin on the site of Paestum. In the heart of the gardens, the "zoological station", dedicated to the study of marine fauna and flora, also houses the oldest aquarium in Europe.
