PIAZZA DEL GESÙ NUOVO
Lively square in the historical center near the church of Gesù Nuovo, the obelisk of the Immacolata in the center
Along Spaccanapoli opens this airy and constantly animated square in the historic centre, bordered by the Church of Gesù Nuovo. In its centre stands the obelisk of theImmacolata, erected in the 18th century by the Jesuits. At the top, the bronze statue of the Immaculate Virgin is decorated with roses on December 8th, her feast day. Note, at no. 63 of the Calata Trinità Maggiore, the sloping street starting from the square, the sixteenth-century Palazzo Pignatelli di Monteleone: acquired by the family of the French painter Edgar Degas, it hosted the artist on various occasions.
