LAPIS MUSEUM
Lapis Museum takes visitors on an underground tour of Naples, 40 m below the surface, complete with lighting effects.
This underground route, centered on the theme of water, is accessible from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta. Located at a depth of 40 meters, it follows some of the galleries of the aqueduct dug into the tufa subsoil by the Greeks, then enlarged by the Romans. After supplying Naples with water for more than 2,000 years, the aqueduct was abandoned at the end of the 19th century, before being used as a bomb shelter for the population during the Second World War. Light shows and a short film enhance the visit.
