DUOMO
Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption with a marble candelabra and sculptures from the 18th century
The Cathedral of Santa Maria dell'Assunta, formerly dedicated to Saints Stefano and Agata, was founded in the 11th century. Partially destroyed by the bombing of 1943, it was completely rebuilt. The ninth-century bell tower incorporates bas-reliefs from the Roman amphitheatre of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Old Capua). Inside there is a large 11th-century carved marble candelabrum and, in the crypt, two 18th-century sculptures: a dead Christ by Matteo Bottiglieri and a Deploration by the Canova School.
