DUOMO DI SAN PROCOLO MARTIRE
Cathedral with Corinthian columns built on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the emperor Augustus.
Pozzuoli Cathedral was founded in the 5th-6th centuries on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the Emperor Augustus, then completely rebuilt in Baroque style in the 17th century. The remains of the temple were discovered following a devastating fire in 1964. Its monumental Corinthian columns are now visible. The church houses paintings by Baroque artists, including three by Artemisia Gentileschi. The composer G. B. Pergolesi (Pergolesi) is buried here.
