RIONE TERRA
Site relating years and levels of occupation, various objects exposed in the museum of Baia
A particular site, a sort of urban conglomerate that is the result of thousands of years of occupation. Inhabited since ancient times, the Rione Terra was stratified by successive constructions until its final evacuation in 1970: an uplift of the ground due to the phenomenon of bradyseism made the site unstable. Archaeological excavations began and revealed the different levels of occupation and numerous objects that are on display in the Baia Museum. A visit to the site allows you to discover this "underground Pompeii", with its Roman streets lined with shops.
