RIONE TERRA
Site relating years and levels of occupation, various objects exposed in the museum of Baia
A special site, a sort of urban conglomerate, the result of thousands of years of occupation. Inhabited since Antiquity, Rione Terra was stratified by successive constructions until it was finally evacuated in 1983: an uplift of the ground due to the phenomenon of bradyseism rendered the site unstable. Archaeological excavations then began, revealing the various levels of occupation and numerous artefacts on display at the Baia Museum. A visit to the site allows you to discover this "underground Pompeii", with its Roman streets lined with stores.
