ROMANIAN TERM
Set of porticoes and terraces of several thermal complexes of the Roman Antiquity including the Baths of Mercury
An imposing complex of porticoes and terraces that belonged to several ancient Roman spa complexes. In the Thermes de Mercure, note the large circular hall, intended as a frigidarium (cold bath), and its dome 26 m in diameter: built at the time of Emperor Augustus, this is the first known example of such a large hemispherical roof in Roman concrete. This technology was later used to cover the Pantheon in Rome.
