TOMBA DI AGRIPPINA
Agrippina's tomb which is in reality an odeon, a small theater dedicated to music
Located in front of a small beach occupied by bathers and fishermen's boats. A tenacious tradition would have it that this is the tomb of Agrippina, the mother of the emperor Nero, murdered in her villa in Baia by hired killers sent by her own son. The reality is quite different. These hemicycle-shaped, multi-level ruins are in fact an odeon - a small theatre dedicated to music - later transformed into a nymphaeum and then part of a large Roman villa on the coast.
