MIRABILIS POOL
Cistern constituting the arrival point of the aqueduct of Serino, supplying water to the cities of Campania.
Built under Augustus, the "Wonderful Pool" is in fact a gigantic cistern. It was the arrival point of the Serino aqueduct, a hundred kilometers long work that supplied drinking water to the cities of Campania and ensured a water supply for the imperial fleet moored in the port of Misene. Its dimensions remain impressive: 70 m long and 25.5 m wide with a capacity of 12,600 litres of water. It is divided into 5 naves and 48 robust pilasters. It is the largest Roman cistern in the world!
