BASILICA
Monumental basilica near the temple of Apollo with geometrical frescos of the first style
Built around 130-120 BC, near the Temple of Apollo, the basilica has a rectangular plan with three naves, a double-sloped roof supported by the 28 central columns and by the half-columns on the upper part of the walls. The geometric frescoes of the first style are of particular interest. Because of its proportions and its importance in the public life of Pompeii (the basilica was dedicated to the administration of justice and commercial transactions), this monumental building represented the heart of the forum.
