CASA DEL FAUNO
Ancient residence housing a copy of the bronze statue of the faun adorning the impluvium
A superb example of an ancient residence built in the 2nd century BC. The House of the Faun is one of the largest in Pompeii (about 3,000m2): it has two atriums and two peristyles. It owes its name to the bronze statue of the faun that decorates theimpluvium (it is a copy, the original is in the Museum of Naples), in the centre of an atrium whose roof was supported by four columns. Frescoes of the first style (from 150 to 80 B.C.). It is from this house that the famous mosaic of the Battle of Alexander, exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Naples, comes from.
