TEATRO GRANDE
Theater with a cellar equipped with marble areas for celebrities and important citizens
The "Great Theatre" was built in the 2nd century BC. The cavea (set of tiers) rests partly on the natural slope of the land and partly on an embankment supported by walls, according to the Greek techniques in use at the time. It included three marble areas for "celebrities" and important citizens. About 5,000 spectators could gather there. The stage wall, decorated with niches for statues and three doors for the actors, dates from a restoration carried out during the reign of Nero.
