CASA DI PANSA
Residence evoking the classic of the Roman domus with axial succession of atrium, tablinum and peristyle
This huge residence occupies an entire insula (block of houses). Dating from 140-120 B.C., it follows the classical layout of the Roman domus with the axial succession of the atrium, the tablinum and the peristyle. Coloured stones, mosaics and fragments of terracotta pave the pavement at the entrance and in the vestibule. Each room is differently decorated (animal figures, deities, marine motifs, etc.). In one of the rooms, seven young people who had taken refuge there died when the ceiling collapsed during the eruption.
