CASA DEL TRAMEZZO DI LEGNO
House with sliding doors separating the tablinum and the atrium, hence its name
The house "of the wooden partition" takes its name from the partition composed of sliding doors (two-thirds of which have been preserved) that allowed the tablinum to be isolated from the atrium, thus ensuring a certain privacy. Note also the grandiose atrium, the marbleimpluvium and the dog-headed gargoyles of the compluvium. The façade of the neighbouring house (Casa a Graticcio) is the best preserved example of ancient opus craticium (half-timbered) construction.
