CASA DEI CERVI
Herculaneum residence with panoramic terrace on the sea, covered atrium, triclinium with frescos
One of the largest and richest residences in Herculaneum at the time had a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, preceded by a pergola. Its garden was embellished with two marble groups evoking the world of hunting (deer attacked by dogs). All around, the cryptoportico (a corridor pierced with windows) was decorated with painted landscapes and loves (now in the Museum of Naples). Note also the completely coveredatrium. See also in the triclinium (dining room) the walls with red and black background, the frescoes and the beautiful pavement.
