DUOMO
Cathedral dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Catelle in Piazza Giovanni XXIII
It is the most important building in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. Dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Catelle, patron saint of the city, the Duomo of Castellammare was erected in 1587 to provide the city with a new cathedral after the previous building was irreparably damaged by an earthquake. However, the Duomo was not consecrated until 1893. Next to it, the old palace, built at the beginning of the 17th century and which today houses the town hall, seems to be inspired by Michelangelo's Farnese Palace in Rome.
