BASTIONE DI PARSANO
Bastion with the Porta di Parsano, among a part of the rampart protecting the site of Sorrento.
The site of Sorrento was occupied in Greek times and was soon protected by a belt of ramparts. These were restored several times, particularly in the 16th century, when the southern coasts of the peninsula were prey to devastating Turkish incursions. The Porta di Parsano, built in the 18th century, is one of the few remaining vestiges of the wall, together with the bastion that flanks it. The visit to this section of the wall is accompanied by an audio guide, in Italian or English, which can be downloaded via a free app.
