Marina Grande, as its name indicates, is both the fishing harbor and the broadest beach in the city. You can put your towel there free of charge while admiring the magnificent view over the Gulf of Naples. For those that the grayish sand would disturb, it is possible to rent chairs (about 5 €). Marinelle, below Sant 'Agnello, is also a good alternative. Here again there are 5 € entrance. They attract a very large number of tourists throughout the year.
For those who dare venture a little further, there is a nice sandy beach in Alimuri. Less crowded and free, it is easily accessible by using the A-bus line. The lovers of the spotlight can go to Punta del Capo, at the tip of the bay of Sorrento (other terminus of the A-bus line). The well-prepared rocks allow you to extend and bathe in transparent (free) water. The fishermen and the Roman ruins will give special attention to the small bath.
Several excursions are possible on the peninsula, looking for a haven of peace on more hidden coves and crystal-clear waters: the beach of Regina Giovanna, for example, is relatively easy to access but less beaten and still quite wild; the road is from Capo di Sorrento, terminal bus terminus. Another option is the Baia di Ieranto, at the end of the peninsula, between Capri and the shores of the coast, property of the Italian Environment Fund, and considered a protected marine area. Today it is accessible only on foot. The way to get there from Nerano, fraction of Massa Lubrense: from the main square, take the street down to a small parking lot, follow the path that connects to the right, indicated in yellow, which will lead you to the Capitello beach (approximately 40 minutes). For those who are looking for a little comfort once the towels are laid and the sun cream applied, visit Marina del Cantone beach in Nerano: A part of the beach is equipped, a small portion is not, but the parking is paid and the tourists often disembark in groups. Go ahead early in the morning to make sure you find a place!
