Beautiful beaches of Sorrento including Marina Grande, the most extensive, Marinella, Alimuri, Punta del Capo.
Sorrento and its surroundings have many beautiful beaches, here are some of the most interesting in the area:
Marina Grande
, as its name suggests, is both the fishing port and the largest beach in the city. Here you can lay your towel down for free while admiring the magnificent view of the Bay of Naples. For those who are bothered by the grey sand, you can rent deckchairs (about 10 €). The so-called free beach of Sorrento, below Villa Comunale, is, however, tiny, and is now invaded by private establishments.Marinella
, below Sant'Agnello, is also a good alternative. Count 20 € for two deckchairs and a parasol. Between them, these two beaches attract a large number of tourists throughout the year. For those who wish to venture further afield, there is a nice little sandy beach at Alimuri
. Less crowded and free, it is easily accessible by taking the A bus line. Those who like to relax can go to Punta del Capo
, at the tip of the bay of Sorrento (another terminus of the A bus line). The flat rocks allow you to lie down and swim in the clear water, and access is free. The fishermen and the Roman ruins give a particular character to the place.Several excursions are possible in the peninsula in search of a peaceful haven in the more hidden coves with crystal-clear waters: the beach of Regina Giovanna
, for example, is quite easy to access and still quite wild; the path starts from Capo di Sorrento, the city bus terminal.Another option is the Baia di Ieranto
, at the end of the peninsula, between Capri and the coast. Owned by the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund) and considered a protected marine area, it is now accessible only on foot. The path to reach it starts from Nerano, a fraction of Massa Lubrense: from the main square, take the street that goes down to a small parking lot; from there, follow the path that branches off to the right, indicated in yellow, which will lead you to the Capitello beach. It takes about 40 minutes. For those who are looking for a little more comfort once they have put down their towel and spread their sun cream, go to the beach of Marina del Cantone, in Nerano: part of the beach is equipped, a small portion is not, but the parking lot is not free and tourists often arrive in groups. Go there very early in the morning to be sure to find a place.
