In Positano, a maritime festival commemorates the landing of the Saracens in the Middle Ages and celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin.
Positano commemorates the landing of the Saracens which, according to legend, took place during the Middle Ages on the night of 14-15 August. They are said to have seized the icon of the Virgin Mary kept in the church, but a storm forced them to bring the icon back on land, and they were converted in the process. This maritime festival gathers hundreds of participants and many boats. The burning of the city and the abduction of the women were then simulated. At the same time, the Assumption of the Virgin (divine ascension) is celebrated.
