MUSEO DELLA CARTA
Museum in an old paper mill testifying Amalfi as a European center of paper making
This ancient 14th-century paper mill is the only testimony to a time when Amalfi was one of the European centres of paper manufacture. The main industry of the city from the 13th to the 18th century, this almost thousand-year-old art, which came from the Arabs, has remained a pride for its inhabitants. In this museum, every 20 minutes, a trilingual guide (French-English-Italian) explains how, with hemp, cotton and linen rags, paper was created. During the visit and the period machines, all the secrets of this alchemy are revealed.
