MUSEO DELLA BUSSOLA
Museum of medieval navigation instruments including the compass and objects related to the history of Amalfi
Housed in the old Arsenal of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, this museum contains various medieval navigational instruments, including the compass, invented in China and introduced to the West by Amalfi navigators, then perfected around the year 1300 by Flavio Gioia. Various objects relating to the history of the town are also on display: the manuscript of the Tabula Amalphitana, medieval statues and the Amalfi galleon, used for the regatta held every four years in one of the four ancient Italian maritime republics.
