BELMOND HOTEL CARUSO
The most charming hotel in this city that counts only beautiful hotels, that is little to say. This old 1893 th century palace, decorated with beautiful frescoes, was opened by Mr Pantaleone Caruso in. He was then called Pensione Belvedere and had only five rooms. In 1903, an article in the New York Times celebrates the establishment on the other side of the Atlantic. Quickly, the hotel takes the name of its owner, expands and settles throughout the palace. The refined rooms are furnished with Roman antiques, the infinity swimming pool has an incredible location, 400 m above the Mediterranean. It was in this hotel that Greta Garbo found refuge with his lover, that Graham Green and William Styron would write the Third Man and La Proie in part. The new suites are the kind of small private houses inspired by the Moorish style, based on the old medieval walls of the palace. With great luxury, the Caruso is part of the Orient-Express hotels.

Loved everything about my stay at Caruso, truly a getaway especially that it’s located in Ravello and close to Amalfi and Positano.
Town of Ravello is a charming place with the most beautiful gardens maintained by italian master gardeners. It is less crowded than Amalfi, or Positano, because it is in the hills, which is good if one wants to avoid crowded streets. However, it is just the opening of the season.
The hotel is a masterpiece. Rich, marble lobby leads the way to the terasse. The view is astonishing. The natural parfume of lilacs fulfilled the air. Lemon trees all around.
The path to the infinity pool is also a big garden with plenty of sunbeds and chairs, all aranged and possitioned so that guest can enjoy the view. But the views are so beautiful one doesn't know in which direction to look.
Italians are capable of maintaining gardens as well as Chinese and Japanese. Here you can see their mastery. Not only in the hotel, but also in local villas, which are accessable with the fee of around 10 Euros. (Worth it)
Room had spectacular view from the terasse, sunbeds, sun shades, chairs, table, all surronded by plants and lemon trees in terracotta vases.
Comfortable beds, (extra bed for kid), king-size, nicest pillows, bottles of water in every corner, nespresso, tea, quick bites, all tasty are included in price of the room, cookies, fruits, champaign, aqua di Parma cosmetics in bathroom which was also beautiful in white marble and supplied with everything that you might need, like sun lotion, or after sun lotion etc. Everyday someone came to prepare the room for the sleep, and we always found new and fresh bites on the little table when we came back to the room. So they were taking really good care of us.
The service is at the highest level. They trully care, but with taste and good measure. The food is 6 out of 5 stars, meaning it always exceeded the expectations. There was one pasta with lemon that I tryed and didn't understand the meal, but the rest was superb. Risotto Capri was possibly the best risotto I ever tried. Everything was made without mistake.
Presentation of food I also liked very much.
Buffet for breakfast was wonderful.
Cocktail master Carmine made us for two nights in the row cocktails that were so wonderfully equilibrated. One feels care and love for the work, true commitment. There was one waiter, probably chef of the staff, with moustache in style of Pirandello, (maybe not Pirandello, but his time, vintage style moustache), who's movements I was studying and admired his commitment. He was also the best dressed in the room, (since some of the guests thought that it would be appropriate to go to breakfast in swimming shorts), showing his seriousness about the job that he was doing. I don't know his name, but he made a strong impression on me. He should be in White Lotus series.
Francesco - dinner service, Marco and Donatella at the pool many others who's names I don't know, experience manager - sweetest little woman, then manager madame Iolanta, perfectly dressed in Chanel costume, with lovely smile, literally everything and everyone in this hotel made us feel like in a place reserved for Gods only. We have been in wonderful places and hotels before and we were treated excellent, but I must say that so far, overall, this might be the best hotel ever nella mia mezzogiorno vita.
I think I expressed enough my deepest admiration for Caruso hotel in Ravello.
Thank you all
Vladimir
The food is fresh, local and truly delicious (grazie Armondo!). The service from Iolanda and her wonderful team is exceptional - warm and genuine. It’s like a home from home (if your home is an ancient hilltop retreat dripping in wisteria and scented with lemons, overlooking a tranquil bay!) GO!!
The views from across the hotel of the Amalfi coast were breath-taking; something we enjoyed at breakfast, by the pool and most importantly from the comfort of our room.
The rooms were spotless and incredibly spacious - even its double rooms which is what we stayed in. The bed was comfortable and pillows perfect - they even had a pillow menu that allowed you to choose one of your liking to ensure a good nights sleep. Everything you could possibly need was provided in the room including a bag which you could use to put your things in to take to the pool.
The gardens were beautiful and tranquil space; pruned to perfection. The pool simply serene. The staff at the pool were friendly and attentive getting your towels and preparing the sun loungers promptly. Small thoughtful touches around the pool area made the experience even more pleasant from board games, cards, books, magazines to keep you entertained all the way to Evian facial mist to help keep you cool.
Breakfast was a smoothly run service with a range of options available from the buffet and the menu. The food was so good, I wish we had stayed long enough to be able to try the whole menu.
The reception staff were genial, knowledgeable and considerate. They gave us some great recommendations for dinner and places to visit in Naples, taught us to play Scopa - a traditional card game - and even had a goody bag with water, sun cream and a face mist ready for us when we went to visit Pompeii.
The paid and complimentary activities the hotel provides are very carefully thought out and run like a well oiled machine. Key details provided and everything ready on time. We used the complimentary shuttle service to Amalfi as well as their boat tour to Positano and back.
For every service and at every level, the staff were exceptional. They are an asset to the hotel and made our experience what it was. A standard of service in hospitality that was truly outstanding and unrivalled.
My husband and I would like to extend a heart felt thanks in particular to Iolanda, Roberta, Ciro, Claudia, Andrea, Ida, Marco, Francesca, Rosy, Nicola, Giofranco, Frederica, Alessio, Adriano and Luigi who made our 10th wedding anniversary trip an experience we shall never forget.
We usually never return to the same place twice because we like to travel to different destinations but the kindness and hospitality we received during our stay has meant we are looking forward to our next stay.
Dear Belmond Caruso Team,
I want to thank you for the exceptional hospitality and service we received during our recent stay. Your attentive and warm team made each moment at your hotel special.
A special thank you to Chef Armando, who made our breakfasts delightful with his cheerful demeanour. Eida's assistance throughout our stay ensured we felt right at home. At the reception, Nickola's (and his twin's) professionalism and readiness to help were second to none, making every interaction a pleasure.
Marko and Donatello's friendly and attentive service enhanced our time at the pool, making each visit relaxing and enjoyable. Lastly, Elsa, your service at dinner was impeccable.
There are many others I did not get the name for who deserve recognition, but a big thank you all for going above and beyond to make our stay so special. We look forward to returning to Belmond Caruso soon.
Warm regards,
Damon and Alison
