ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Museum holding funerary furniture from Iron Age necropolises and the bronze head of Apollo
The museum was created in 1927 within the walls of the ancient monastery of San Benedetto and the palace of the first Norman kings. It presents archaeological repertoires dating from prehistoric times to the end of antiquity, discovered during excavations in Salerno and the province. In particular, the funerary material from the Iron Age necropolises (Greek ceramics, weapons and jewellery) will be examined. On the first floor is the bronze head of Apollo, recovered from the waters of the Gulf of Salerno in 1930. In the garden, there is a lapidarium with pieces from the Roman period.
