Initially a fitness centre (its name literally means "here we treat you"), it was opened by the Scottish doctor George Sidney Clark, who was convinced of the benefits of the Mediterranean climate on health. With the help of tourism, the doctor opened a small pension. It is now one of the most famous and luxurious hotels in Italy.
