CHIESA DI SAN COSTANZO
Church dedicated to San Costanzo, patron saint of Capri, the interior in Greek cross with central dome
Church dedicated to San Costanzo, the patron saint of Capri, a 7th century bishop who evangelized part of southern Italy. The building, built in the5th century on the ruins of a Roman building, was originally dedicated to San Severino. Remodeled in the Byzantine style in the 10th century, it was enlarged by Giacomo Arcucci in the 14th century, who was already at the origin of the Carthusian monastery. The interior is sober, in the form of a Greek cross with a central dome. Three of the columns that support the arches were taken to embellish the chapel of the palace of Caserta.
