Connected to the rest of the island by an artificial bridge, the island of Vivara, declared a natural reserve, is a bird sanctuary and houses archeological excavations accessible in summer. Mycenian traders (1400 BC - 1100 BC) visibly used the places as a stopover during their crossing of the Mediterranean.
