Originally, it was a strategic alleyway from the early Stone Age and Celtic period. It has been so named since 1921-1926, an evolution of its former name Káptalan utca (1879). Still largely degraded by decades of decay, Kapitulská Street is one of the most beautiful streets in Bratislava. It includes the Palace of the Prefect, the Jesuit College, the Collegium Emericanum, the Canons' Residences and the Esterhazy Palace, all magnificent.
