Nitra has kept its Jewish cemetery with about 5,000 tombs on 6 hectares. The cemetery is located about 2 kilometres southwest of the city centre. It is divided into two parts: orthodox and neologist. The former Jewish Orthodox cemetery was founded around 1750, while the neologic part of the cemetery was founded in 1860. Among the important personalities of the city of Nitra buried in the Jewish cemetery is Rabbi Ezekiel Baneth (1773-1854).
