To the north of the central square, the cathedral was built in the 15th century on the ruins of the town's former castle. The paintings, by Josef Božetech Klemens, are well worth seeing, especially those above the altar. The Burian Tower, adjacent to the church, was probably part of the former castle. Transformed into a Renaissance belfry around 1530, it was surrounded by large marble staircases leading to Hlinka Square in 1942-1943.
