The historic Art Nouveau building of the former Royal Hungarian Police Headquarters on Andrej Hlinka Square in Žilina has housed the Považská Art Gallery since 1976. It focuses mainly on Slovak fine art from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. A permanent exhibition presents the work of Vincent Hložník, a leading Slovak artist of the 20th century. It also gives space to artists of the new generation and their modern installations.
