In a beautiful historical building on Vajanska Street in Poprad, there is the Podtatranské Regional Museum. Founded in 1876, it is the oldest in Slovakia and is dedicated to the history of the region and the city. It displays collections of nearly 50,000 ethnographic and natural history objects as well as magnificent photographs. An exhibition is dedicated to the Neanderthal man following the discovery of a part of a 100,000-year-old skull in Gánovce.
