The Spiš Museum in Spišská Nová Ves was founded in 1951. It is located in a historical building from the 15th century, which originally served as the town hall and later, in 1774, as the seat of the province of the sixteen Spiš towns (provincial house). Behind its splendid baroque facade, renovated in 2015, it recounts the history of the region, presents the natural (biological and geological) features of the area, a more technical part focuses on mining.
