From the middle of the 13th century, Spišská Kapitula was the religious seat of Spiš County. Then, in the years 1662-1665, the city developed. Originally the Provost's Palace when it was built in 1281, the Bishop's Palace has been restored and enlarged over the centuries and has Baroque and Renaissance elements. It was built with the cathedral and the clock tower of 1739 with, before that, a French park located near the palace.
