The Slovak "Vatican" is the church town of Spišská Kapitula, from which church life was organised. In Spišská Kapitula there is a fortified wall dating from the 14th century, which has been rebuilt several times. Its present appearance, dominated by two beautiful Renaissance doors, dates from the second half of the 17th century. It contains historic houses, some of Gothic origin, others of Renaissance and Baroque styles.
