WHITE SANDS BEACH

A beautiful beach with fine, clear sand, transparent turquoise water, sailboats and abundant wildlife.
This beach is considered the most beautiful in the country. You reach it by passing the airfield. The coast here is very indented, with small coves sheltering beautiful stretches of sand. The region is so beautiful that academician Jean-François Deniau built a house here, where, it is said, many French celebrities came to visit. Mr. Deniau is the author of Tadjourah, a book in which the town is not really mentioned, but which expresses the writer's attachment to the place.
The largest beach on this stretch of coast is the Sables Blancs, below a cliff of black rock. The sand is particularly fine and clear, and slopes gently down to the transparent turquoise waters of the Gulf of Tadjourah. A hotel has taken up residence here. Farniente, beach sports (volleyball, pétanque on the sand), water sports, snorkeling over the nearby coral reefs and swimming are all on the program. The area is very popular with expats. The occasional sailboat or speedboat anchors here. You can spend one or more nights here and enjoy a meal. Coral reefs are close by, and divers will discover interesting seabeds. From a boat, at depths of between 5 and 30 m, you can admire an abundance of fauna, from clown fish to colorful lobsters. But with just a few flippers, mask and snorkel, you'll be able to admire the beautiful fish and coral just a few fathoms from the beach. An idyllic spot.
