RANDO À BANKOUALÉ

From the very popular Bankoualé camp, there are many possibilities for hiking: a short walk to the Randa spring, a longer hike (3-4 hours) to Randa following the stream beds and then climbing, or a trek of one or more days in the Goda Mountains, towards the Day. The small waterfall of the Bankoualé spring irrigates the whole valley thanks to a system of three small gullies that are fed alternately. The gardens are protected by barriers made of thorny branches. There are palm trees, banana trees, mango trees, papaya trees, lemon trees... Tomatoes, watermelons, melons, green beans, peppers, etc. are grown here. There are also palm trees of a species specific to Djibouti: very high (20 m), very thin, straight, they are just topped by a few disheveled tufts. They have been named "Bankoualé palms" and are now unique in the world. But washed away by the floods, there are not many left. Among the many animals, you will easily see noisy hornbills, baboons with their not very discreet cries, squirrels, damans that run on the almost vertical rocks, dig-digs, birds of prey. With a little luck, you will come across a porcupine. And of course, everywhere, herds of goats and Vervet monkeys. Depending on the route, you will pass through tiny villages, with an enclosure for the goats, a water tank sometimes and a few cats protecting the place from reptiles.
