PALLADIO MUSEUM - PALAZZO BARBARAN
Palace realized by Andrea Palladio including the museum dedicated to him, seat of the International Center of Architectural Studies.
Palace. This is the only palace in Vicenza that Andrea Palladio (born in Padua in 1508, died in Vicenza in 1580) managed to complete. It was built towards the end of his life, between 1570 and 1575. Today it houses a museum dedicated to this great artist. The building is also home to the International Center for Architectural Studies (Cisa), which is internationally renowned for its work on the history of architecture. Its library is full of fundamental texts dating back to the 16th century. Look at the entrance courtyard, a perfect example of Palladio's genius. Looking at it, you will have the impression that it is symmetrical, but think again! If you look at the plan on the right, you will notice that it is actually asymmetrical. This optical effect was created by Palladio thanks to the use of arches and columns, a process that has become a classic in architecture.
Museum. It traces the incredible story of this man of modest origins who became one of the most famous architects of the last five centuries. His influence was considerable in the world and many famous buildings are directly inspired by the "Palladian" style. Thanks to an interactive museography, you can immerse yourself in the mind of the architect to understand more and more, from room to room, the development of his work. You will be able to observe his original drawings and the spectacular wooden models that prefigured his most emblematic creations.
