Mountaineers of Iceland is the oldest snowmobile specialist, with over 100 snowmobiles.

Managed by the famous Olof, Mountaineers of Iceland is the oldest snowmobile specialist, with over 100 snowmobiles in service and the ability to accommodate large or small groups on the Langjökull glacier. Mountaineers also operates a large fleet of super trucks and super jeeps specially designed for glaciers. They also have the capacity to escort groups on the glacier and other steep trails in the Icelandic mountains, most of which are inaccessible by conventional means of transport.

We booked a snowmobile tour for 49‘000 ISK which should be including 1h of Snowmobile driving. Sadly it was 30mins of driving behind the guide with an Average speed of 15km/h. At Halftime i asked the guide if we could go a bit faster, which he said its not possible. The whole Trip was around 4h, it takes rlong to reach the first base where you change clothes, then it goes on to the glacier. If you look for Adrealin this is the wrong Trip, if you like very calm driving and a nice View go ahead. In my opinion its overpriced, around 135€ for traveling a long Bus ride and a too short Snowmobile ride.

I was really excited for this experience but it was just “meh”. Weather aside (def not the fault of the operator), the experience wasn’t the best. Trying to get 40+ people suited up simultaneously was frustrating chaos. The group was large with only 2 guides so the snow mobile was experience was slow and kind of boring. If all you want to do is ride a snow mobile on a glacier, this gets the job done. If you want a little something more, this experience likely isn’t for you. I do want to emphasize that the guides were cheerful and helpful even through a demanding job.
