To spend a unique New Year's Eve, you can admire the numerous fireworks launched by the inhabitants in the capital.
During the Christmas season, stores are decked out with decorations that reflect Icelandic legends, such as the Christmas cat (or Jólakötturinn in Icelandic), who devours children who haven't received their Christmas clothes, or the 13 Christmas elves, the yule lads, who love to cause mayhem! As for restaurants, there are plenty of Christmas buffets to choose from. Finally, on New Year's Eve, most Icelanders leave their homes to attend receptions, or to admire the magnificent fireworks they set off themselves.
