Nice museum by the lake with temporary exhibitions throughout the year

This pretty museum on the shores of Lake Tjörnin (great views from its windows) offers an overview of Iceland's art scene in the 19th and 20th centuries. Works by numerous landscape painters influenced by the Impressionists are on display. Temporary exhibitions are also held throughout the year. There's also a cafeteria and a well-stocked gift store. Admission is free for children under 18, making this a great family outing!

It's art, and it's Icelandic.

Lovely exhibits in this iconic building with a history. Just please be quiet when walking through. When I was in there admiring Kjarvals work, a group of very loud US people entered, apparently not knowing what they were doing there except being loud. I sushed them and that thankfully made them stop being loud. They were also gone very soon, to my luck I must say. Kjarvals work is really sacred in Icelandic culture and when entering an exhibit some respect is expected.

The museum had 3 different exhibits and I loved them all. Walking into Ruris glass work was really impressive also.

Also the art collection given to the museum with a lot of paintings of the work at sea, really was lovely to see.
