KERIÐ CREATER
Kerid crater of an ancient volcano, with an intense reddish-brown crater, contrasting with the turquoise water, with black and green surroundings
Not far from Selfoss, Kerið is an ancient volcano with a deep reddish-brown crater, contrasting nicely with the turquoise water filling the crater and the black and green surroundings. The pieces of gravel take on a special appearance, as if they had been fired in a potter's kiln. A small path allows you to climb up to the edge of the crater and walk around it in about 40 minutes. The view on the surroundings is, moreover, superb. Signs on the parking lot explain the process that led to such a formation.
