HOTEL RANGA
Very good quality hotel offering rooms, the most luxurious of which have private verandas and a whirlpool bath
Hotel Ranga is a luxury hotel in the south of the country. It's one of the few 4-star hotels in this part of Iceland - a distinction that's amply justified. The building, all in wood, is superb and warm. The rooms are divided between the main building and small individual chalets. Each is uniquely decorated, combining a chic winter chalet ambience with a mix of country and more contemporary furnishings. The most luxurious suites offer private verandas and even a private whirlpool bath. The décor is Scandinavian-inspired in the rooms, and the common areas are also very pleasant, decorated with local works of art carefully chosen by Friðrik Pálsson, the owner. An avid traveler and enthusiast, you're likely to come across him during your stay, and he'll be delighted to share his anecdotes and give you tips for excursions in the region. The Hotel Ranga offers a variety of themed packages, from gourmet experiences to romantic getaways, as well as a range of daytime activities. Thanks to powerful telescopes and a starry sky devoid of light pollution, the Ranga is also the ideal place to observe the famous northern lights. All in all, this is an excellent address, overlooking the river and the Hekla, with a top-quality gourmet restaurant and heated outdoor pool: everything you need for an unforgettable stay.

However, I had a bad experience with a service recommended by the hotel. I wanted to go salmon fishing in the area, and the hotel suggested Iceland Outfitters. Mrs. Kolbrún from the company charged me nearly 2,000 euros in advance for a full day of fishing. But the day before, she informed me that the guide was ill and we could only fish for half a day, promising to refund the difference.
On the fishing day, the weather was terrible, with a lot of rain and wind, making the experience unpleasant and even dangerous. Moreover, Mrs. Kolbrún never returned the 1,000 euros for the half-day we didn't use. Despite my repeated requests, she hasn't responded.
I was surprised by this behavior, as I had always heard about the ethics and honesty of the Icelandic people. Please, do not recommend this company again and ensure better vetting of the services you endorse.
