HLIÐARENDI
A place with grassy lands, on the northern flank of the Fljotsdalur, a wide valley of black alluvium, with a river
It was here in Fljótshlið that Gunnar Hámundarson of Hlíðarendi had his firm, one of the most important characters in the Saga of Njáll. According to tradition, at the time, he was buried under a large tertre in a meadow north of the farm, the Gunnarshaugar. They are grasslands, on the northern flank of Fljótsdalur, a large valley of black lights where the numerous ramifications of the Markarfljót river are serenated. This river, powered by the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, comes from Þórsmörk. A church built in 1897 is located on the spot.
