VATNAJÖKULL
Remarkable glacier, the largest in Iceland, in a national park in Skaftafell, a paradise for hikers and ice lovers.
When you admire it, you understand why it is the largest glacier in Iceland! The imposing ice mass of Vatnajökull overflows the sides of the mountains, and gigantic ice fronts crawl up to the black sands and meadows of the coastal strip. Sometimes you can see real colonies of wild swans, almost as numerous as sheep, grazing on the grass in these meadows. A paradise for hikers and ice lovers. Since July 2019, Vatnajökull National Park has been classified as a major natural heritage for humanity by Unesco.
